From Basement to Lux Entertainment Space

The family entertainment room features a golf simulator.

This basement renovation began with a clear goal: to create a space the whole family could enjoy as the kids grew into their teen years.

With the homeowners’ love of golf, the design naturally revolved around a sports simulator. To make that possible, we actually had to dig down to gain the needed ceiling height; a big undertaking, but completely worth it. Now, the simulator is one of the most used features in the home.

The vision was to carry the traditional feel of the upper floors into the basement, while still keeping things relaxed and family friendly. We layered in architectural details like applied moulding paneling, which not only adds timeless character but also cleverly conceals hidden doors for game storage. A custom pool table was chosen for its classic design and finishes, perfect for reinforcing the traditional aesthetic while setting the stage for a well rounded entertainment space.

To balance the formal touches, we designed a custom sectional that’s as cozy as it is practical. It doubles as seating for those waiting their turn on the simulator and as the ultimate spot for family movie marathons. Just steps away, a new bar tucked into a once overlooked nook adds storage and creates a natural spot for drinks and snacks.

We also took the opportunity to refresh the basement bathroom, tying it into the rec room design with a custom wood vanity styled like a furniture piece, textured wallpaper, and timeless fixtures that add warmth and charm.

And while we were at it, we couldn’t resist reimagining the main floor powder room. Using the family’s vintage dresser, we created a one of a kind vanity with a stone remnant countertop & splash, and paired it with a moody floral wallpaper inspired by their living room drapery. The result is a small but unforgettable space packed with personality.

Altogether, this renovation created a home that bridges traditional elegance with casual comfort — a multifunctional retreat where the family can gather, entertain, and make memories for years to come.
