The Finishing Layer: Window Coverings

Window coverings are often one of the last selections made in a home, but they can have one of the biggest impacts on how a space ultimately feels. More than simply providing privacy or controlling light, window coverings help soften a room, add warmth, and create a sense of completion throughout the home.

We often think of window coverings as the finishing layer that ties everything together.

Soft linen drapery continues to be one of our favourite choices because it brings movement, texture, and softness into a space while still feeling timeless. Woven shades are another favourite for adding warmth and an organic element, especially when layered with drapery panels for added depth.

One of the details we pay close attention to is placement. Hanging drapery higher and wider around a window can completely transform the scale of a room, helping ceilings feel taller and spaces feel more polished and expansive.

Function is equally important. Every room has different needs depending on how the space is used. In bedrooms, blackout treatments can create comfort and better sleep, while living spaces often benefit from softer filtered light that still allows natural brightness to fill the room.

Like many elements in a home, window coverings are most successful when they feel thoughtful rather than overly noticeable.

The right materials, proportions, and layering quietly enhance a space while helping it feel warm, finished, and inviting. It is often these softer details that make a house truly feel like home.
